It’s been a great year for Axtone so far with loads of releases, a residency in Croatia and a party at Ushuaia coming up on Wednesday. To top all of that off Axtone made their Tomorrowland debut this year hosting their own indoor arena at the festival.
I arrived during MEG / NERAK’s set and they set the tone for the rest of the day, relentlessly deploying high energy bangers with plenty of their usual fist pump action. NEW_ID was next up who treated the crowd to some summery grooves before Tom Staar took over proceedings. It didn’t take him long to thrash out recent Axtone release ‘The Funkatron’ which got a great reaction. As Kryder began his set the arena was rammed as bossman Axwell was up next.
Axwell delivered a typically epic set, chatting to the crowd in-between tracks and banging out his back catalogue of hits. He even kept his cool when one of his tracks skipped as a result of a huge inflatable ball landing on his CDJ. A big highlight was when he brought out fellow Axtone family member Shapov to play their upcoming collab ‘Belong’ to a rapturous applause. Shapov took the reins next for his set which included a stage invasion of all the DJs on the Axtone bill. Dirty South and Sick Individuals were on duty to keep the party going with Hard Rock Sofa closing the arena.
The day couldn’t have gone better and judging on how well it went, I’m pretty sure Axtone will be back at Tomorrowland for more in 2017!
