It was the icing on the cake to see that two of our biggest clients were headlining Wireless Festival when I first started working on the account. I was intrigued to see how Calvin and Kygo’s sets would go down at a festival that had in previous years mainly booked urban acts as headliners. Unsurprisingly though both Calvin and Kygo nailed it and had the crowd buzzing.
Calvin was up first out of the two, headlining on Friday. Making the crowd bounce to a barrage of back catalogue weapons is something he has got down to a fine art. This is what they came for (couldn’t resist) and Calvin succeeded in his task. Throw in an introduction by WILL SMITH!!, surprise performances by Big Sean and Dizzee Rascal plus fire, confetti, lasers AND a surprise drop of Adele’s ‘Hello’ – it’s fair to say he smashed it.
Kygo’s turn came on Sunday. Fittingly, his set began just before sunset which set the tone nicely for the sun-kissed hook lines within his tracks. Similarly to Calvin he had a number of guests at the ready to join him on stage such as Aston from JLS to Fergie. Personal faves in the set were Firestone and Sexual Healing especially as a million red and blue inflatable balls bounced over the crowd during that song (great Boomerang fodder). It was the calm before the storm as BBK were up next to make their Wireless headliner debut. A decent end to a great weekend!
